Some events you should know about!
Especially if you live in southern Scotland!
Hello! I wanted to message to let you know about a few things that are happening and remind you about some that I’ve already told you about!
Firstly, this Saturday sees the 10th anniversary of the very first Artists and Makers Shop opening in Kirkcudbright. Since then three more have opened; one in Castle Douglas, another at Gatehouse of Fleet and, this year, one at Shambellie House in New Abbey.
Obviously it’s something worth celebrating, so we’ve decided to do something in our respective shops and, as a result, I’ll be at the Mill on the Fleet on Saturday to help with that.
Some of us are doing demonstrations and workshops; Louisa Ruthven will be demonstrating on her spinning wheel, Heather Andrews is offering needle felting classes and I thought I could take some collage materials and make some simple artist books with anyone interested.
There are discounts for shoppers and cake for everyone!
And, if you can’t make the Saturday, it’s my rota day at Gatehouse on the Sunday. There may still be cake!
Ongoing is the DAGFAS Summer Exhibition at Gracefield in Dumfries. Don’t forget that in order to see my work, you do need to go across to the main building, into the cafe and there buy yourself a cuppa (you don’t actually have to buy the cuppa, but you’ll be there at the cafe and it’s a nice cafe, so treat yourself!) My work, and also that of photographer Roger Lever, is on display in the cafe.
I’m taking part in the Harbour Cottage Gallery Open Exhibition in Kirkcudbright from 28 July until 9 August. I have a couple of duty days there too, so if you come and I’m behind the desk - well, lucky you!
The standard of work is usually exceptionally high, so It should be a feast for the eyes. Plus the Harbour Cottage is such a lovely little gallery in a really beautiful setting.
Whilst the Open Exhibition is running it’ll also be this year’s Kirkcudbright Art and Crafts Trail. Taking part over the first weekend of August, the event has over 100 venues (although not all of those are arty or crafty) and is definitely a highlight of the Summer Festivities here. I’ll be joined by Gill Baines of Littlehaven Art and Sue Brooks of Magpie Weaving again this year and Grant’s Workshop will be open for those needing a bit of automobilia. We’re hoping to have a few classic cars on display too.
Come and see us between Friday August 1st and Monday August 4th, 11-5 daily.
Find us all at the Royal Garage (follow directions to Julie Hollis Art Studio on Google and Maps).
I’m having odd open studio days in between all of this. It’s worth checking my website if you’re in town and would like to visit; today I had the door open and the sign out for anyone passing by. My calendar is updated on a daily basis.
So that’s you up to date. I do have another upcoming exhibition, but I’ll save that for my next monthly newsletter!
